Employees and community go beyond therapy to help ATI patient with his\u00a0recovery<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

After 20 years of dealing with chronic back pain following a car accident, Alan Stanley of Oswego had accepted the fact that pain was going to be part of his everyday life.\u00a0 \u201cI went through all kinds of doctors, chiropractors, acupuncture and surgery,\u201d says Alan.\u00a0 \u201cIt would make me feel better temporarily, but the pain always came back.\u00a0 I had basically given up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Until one day, when a suggestion by his neighbor literally changed his life.<\/p>\n

On this particular day, his pain had gotten so bad, he couldn\u2019t walk and he got stuck between his house and his neighbor\u2019s house.\u00a0 She helped him in and recommended that he see her doctor.<\/p>\n

Alan took her advice and the doctor recommended ATI Physical Therapy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Alan first walked in and told me his story, I have to admit I was a little nervous,\u201d says Brett Reuter, Alan\u2019s physical therapist at\u00a0ATI in Oswego<\/a>. \u201cI thought hopefully I can get this guy better, no one else has been able to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brett\u2019s only goal was to help Alan and relieve his pain for the long term.\u00a0 So . . . that\u2019s what he did.<\/p>\n

McKenzie Method<\/h2>\n

Brett used a specialized treatment called the McKenzie Method\u00ae to tackle Alan\u2019s pain, and tailored his care to his needs.\u00a0 He utilized a team approach, calling on the expertise of his fellow therapists to identify weaknesses in Alan and create a comprehensive and collaborative plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cATI has been great . . .\u00a0 a lot better than I expected,\u201d says Alan.\u00a0 \u201cBrett goes the extra mile and cares a lot.\u00a0 I know if I continue Brett\u2019s recommendations, the exercises and stuff, I believe over the long term I\u2019ll get better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, Alan is on a long-term exercise and pain management plan, and is no longer taking pain medications.<\/p>\n

But, the success of Alan\u2019s story doesn\u2019t end here.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

As Alan got to know Brett, he opened up about his situation at home.\u00a0 Because of his injury and pain, Alan\u2019s ability to work was limited, as well as his insurance coverage.\u00a0 And recently, due to a storm, he had damage to the roof of his trailer home and broken windows that were subjecting him to the elements.\u00a0\u00a0 To make matters worse, his mattress was inadequate and wasn\u2019t giving Alan the support he needed for his back.<\/p>\n

As Alan approached his last visits to ATI, Brett was worried that he would regress.\u00a0 There were tools he needed to help with his pain, but insurance wouldn\u2019t cover them. \u201cI thought long-term, what can I do for him to help him with this pain management,\u201d said Brett.\u00a0 \u201cSo I contacted Andy Reichert with Reichert Medical to ask for his assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy helped Brett troubleshoot Alan\u2019s situation for pain management, and kindly donated two back braces and a tens unit for pain management at home. Brett had also shared Alan\u2019s living\u00a0situation, and together Andy and Brett forged a plan.<\/p>\n

Andy then took the story to his men\u2019s group at Cross Lutheran Church in Yorkville, IL, and they rallied around him.\u00a0 After efforts to repair his trailer failed, they raised the funds to purchase Alan another trailer.<\/p>\n

Back at the Oswego clinic, an employee donated a mattress for Alan.<\/p>\n

While Andy and his men\u2019s group did amazing things for Alan, he gives all the credit to Brett and his amazing personality. \u201cBrett gets it.\u00a0 He\u2019s in a profession that helps people, and he goes beyond the call,\u201d says Andy.\u00a0 \u201cThis all happened because of what Brett did at ATI.\u00a0 I would have never known about his patient unless he told me.”<\/p>\n

As for Brett, this is all in a day\u2019s work. \u201cI want my patients to feel better, and I really do care about them as people.\u00a0 At the end of the day, it does feel good if I can put a smile on their face, or do something to give them any relief at all!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
